ROSS Employment Program
(Resident Opportunities for Self Sufficiency)

 

Denver Housing Authority’s (DHA) ROSS Employment Program offers education, employment referrals, computer classes, scholarships, and career building services to clients who are interested in working towards self-sufficiency, employment, career building, computer technology, and financial stability.

Employment Services

The ROSS Employment Program provides assistance with the following:

·        On Site Classes – Free classes are provided to ROSS clients at DHA sites.  Topics include conflict resolution, financial fitness, computer training, GED preparation, and more.

·        Computer Training – Free computer classes in Word, Power Point, Excel, Internet, keyboarding, etc.
are offered to ROSS clients.

·        Job Boards –  post job leads at all sites.

·        Internet Job Search – ROSS case managers provide training to clients on how to do internet search for employment opportunities.

Employment Counseling

Making more money is something we all want to do.  This can be difficult because it usually involves increasing employment skills and/or getting more education. 

The ROSS Employment Program offers help with career building by offering:

·         Employment referrals and resources.

·         Career development through training and skill building.

·         Case managers for all clients.

·         Free computer classes on site at Westridge, Sun Valley, North Lincoln, and Platte Valley.  Computer lab at Westwood.

INCENTIVE PLU$ CLA$$E$

 

Incentive Plus classes cover many topics including real estate, employment, stress management, family issues, and more.  Clients receive $20.00 coupons towards their home purchase for every class they attend. 

 

Youth Services

Study Centers are available at Westridge, Westwood, North Lincoln, and Sun Valley.  The centers offer homework help, computer services, and academic incentives.    

 

Education to Employment Scholarships

Public housing clients of the ROSS Program can apply for up to $1,000.00 in financial assistance for:

· Education (tuition, books, tests, etc)
· Transportation assistance (bus passes/tokens)

Applicants must:

· Be active ROSS participants
· Be a resident of public housing
· Write an essay explaining why financial assistance is being requested
· Take a DHA budgeting class & 2 DHA classes.

Eligible Educational Programs:

To qualify for a scholarship, the educational program you request payment for must be no longer than 12 months long and you must show how and where you will apply for a job after you complete this program.

 

The Approval Process

 

The Scholarship Panel will determine how much financial assistance will be given to applicants based on the requirements outlined in this brochure.

 

ROSS Employment  Overview

The ROSS Employment Program focuses on helping clients:

·  gain the necessary skills to enter the workforce and
·  increase their job skills to increase job pay and job fulfillment.
